So because of the fact that the writer and singer were way out of touch with what state of mind is needed for tripping, as well as the fact that.Kenny ROGERS for christs sake, I consider this a lame song, and would never trip to it. "I tore my mind on a jagged sky"? Sounds like he's describing brain damage or something. I like how they keep making reference to The Byrds psychedelic anthem "Eight Miles High", but it sounds like the guy who wrote it is describing a REALLY REALLY bad trip. I said I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in I had my foot on the gas as I left the road and blew out my mindĮight miles outta Memphis and I got no spareĮight miles straight up downtown somewhere Someone painted "April Fool" in big black letters on a "Dead End" sign I watched myself crawlin' out as I was a-crawlin' in I pushed my soul in a deep dark hole and then I followed it in I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in I tripped on a cloud and fell-a eight miles high I found my mind in a brown paper bag within I woke up this mornin' with the sundown shinin' in (Yeah, yeah, oh-yeah, what condition my condition was in) I've never heard the entire song, but I sure as hell wouldn't trip to the song. Can you imagine a bunch of heads all tripping to Kenny Rogers? Apparently, some people thought that he was the new speaker for the counter-culture. Kenny said that while he(and his band?) had never indulged in any psychedelic, people thought that because he sung that song that he was "in tune". They had a little light show going on, and stuff. You should have seen them playing the song in concert. I guess that they made a psychedelic song to capitalize on the acid craze at the time. They talked about how he and his first band "First Edition" had a hit with a psychedelic tune called "Just Dropped In (to see what condition my condition was in)". One day I was watching TV, and I flipped past CMT, and they were talking about Kenny Rogers in the late 60's.
